Standards-Based Evidence of Teaching Competence
The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing developed the
Teaching Performance Expectations (TPEs) as guidelines for skills
beginning teachers should have. The expectations are composed of six
general categories: making content comprehensible to students,
assessing, engaging and supporting student learning, planning
instruction, creating an effective learning environment, and developing
professionally.
I have had the honor of practicing these skills in two elementary schools during my student teaching and with my fellow student teachers in credentialing classes. In the following pages you'll find lessons on orbiting planets, t-charts, writing using sensory details, and dictionary skills. There are my reflections about managing the classroom, learning more about my students, ethics, and my path to becoming a more effective educator. These artifacts of my learning mark the beginning of my career as a teacher and serve as a foundation for my future trajectory.
